A Lecture in Honor of Women’s History Month with Cathrine Duffy

Date: 03/12/2019

Time: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Location
North Reading Room Learning Lab

Description

Women make up half of the population, but less than one in four elected leaders are women. When women run, they win at the same rates as men. Research shows that engaging women in politics in high school and college is key to increasing the number of women in public office.  More than 56 percent of Congresswomen got their start in student government. Since 2012, Stony Brook University has trained 350 women students through the Elect Her: Stony Brook Women Win program. Join Cathrine Duffy for a talk on the Stony Brook’s Elect Her program and the American Association of University Women, which founded the program along with the nonprofit Running Start.

Cathrine Duffy, Associate Director of Student Support.
