Please submit Reserves Requests by the following dates:

  • AV reserve materials have a 4 hour and cannot leave the library loan period.
  • Only the instructor who has the video on course reserve may take the video out of the library for more than 4 hrs.
  • Instructors should make sure that the name(s) of all TAs in charge of borrowing AV material appear on the Reserve form.
  • Booking material will ensure that the video/DVD will be available to you when needed for class screenings.
  • Instructors are encouraged to book their screening dates to avoid conflicts with other classes.
  • Any faculty member interested in showing AV material to their class which has already been placed on Reserve by another instructor will need to complete the AV online form.
  • Faculty may also book non-reserve videos for specific dates with this form.

Personal copies may be placed on reserve.  The library cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage. Personal copies must be retrieved at the end of the semester.

Materials that cannot be placed on reserve are:

  • unauthorized reproductions of videos/DVDs
  • Videos borrowed from other libraries or rented from video stores

Before assigning Reserve material to students, please check the catalog or contact the Reserves department to make sure the material is available for use.

ORDERING NEW MATERIALS – RESERVES

The Libraries do not purchase materials for course reserves. Instructors are encouraged to draw course materials from the Libraries’ physical or online collections or from the many open education resources (OER) now readily available. Discover OERs on the SBU Libraries’ Open Education Guide (http://guides.library.stonybrook.edu/open-education/home), and Open SUNY Textbooks and OER Services (http://textbooks.opensuny.org/).

It is recommended that instructors contact their library subject liaison if they anticipate a future need for materials not already in the collections. Instructors also may submit purchase requests through the online purchase recommendation form. Submissions will be routed to the appropriate library subject liaison. Instructors may supply personal copies to be placed on reserve for the duration of the semester.

All material placed on reserve is subject to review for compliance with US copyright law and fair use practices. For more information, see Copyright Policies and Guidelines for Course Reserves.
