Using the Contex Scanner to Scan Maps for GIS Workshop

Description

Seating is limited to 10 participants. This course is only open to current SBU faculty, staff, and students. No previous knowledge is necessary. Registration required.

Participants in this workshop will receive hands-on training in the basics of operating the Contex large format scanner and NextImage software to produce high quality scans of maps for georectification and GIS projects. Some image post-processing and file management will be included. We will also discuss copyright concerns raised when reproducing print items.

Additionally, participants will learn about the maps held in the library’s Special Collections and University Archives.

*Note: additional training may be required before personnel are permitted to operate the scanner independently.
