Travels of a Digital Projects Librarian: Nairobi, Kenya and The Leakey Papers

University Libraries is engaging in a large scale digitization project with the Leakey archives, a family of renowned paleoanthropologists with ties to SBU and Turkana Basin Institute. Digital Projects Librarian, Victoria Pilato, recently went on a trip to Nairobi, Kenya to assess the historic Leakey family papers. The assessment involved recording collection information, including material formats, quantities, condition reports, workflow of digitization that is underway, and gathering information to develop a grant proposal. In this session, Victoria will present her findings and discuss the foreseeable processes and trials of working on a digital project in a different country.
3D printing programs in Academic Health Science Libraries

3D printing has been making its way into Health Science education and providing experiential learning opportunities for students. This presentation will outline experiences bringing 3D printing to students through the library. Highlights and lessons learned from integrating a 3D printing program into the curriculum of two graduate health science programs and partnering with other experts on campus to provide exposure to this new technology will be discussed.
