Instructional Support Assistant
Required
Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Associate’s
degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft
Office applications such as Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to use Google
applications such as Docs, Sheets, Calendar. The ability to learn new software
applications and learn new technology. Strong customer service experience in a
related customer-focused field (hospitality, education support).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a library (academic or public). Experience using databases or
online platforms, statistics and scheduling software tools, and office
productivity software.
Brief Description of Duties:
This position plays a key role in coordinating the library’s incoming and
outgoing mail, including assisting the resource sharing department with the
delivery of material. Under the guidance of the Head of Access Services, the
incumbent also contributes to the smooth operation of the assigned library
space by supporting stack maintenance, helping with delivery operations, and
assisting at service points. In addition to mail processing, the role supports
interlibrary loan, document delivery, reserves, and helps gather related usage
statistics. Strong customer service skills are essential, along with the
ability to make sound decisions independently.
- Under the direction of the Head of Access and User Services, helps support the daily operations of the library space. Assists with stack maintenance and delivery functions. Maintains appropriate statistics regularly for the area. Coverage of the Library Services Desk including circulation, answering library user questions in person and virtually while referring more complex reference questions to Reference staff. Responsible for opening and closing the library as needed. Assist with the supervision of student employees, including training, assigning and reviewing tasks, coordinating with other staff on performance assessment and monitoring work-study balance.
- Coordinate Mailing Operations for the Library. Duties may include processing daily mail: pack and ship outgoing deliveries, record and maintain daily/monthly shipping information and costs; submit monthly shipping costs to Library Administration; troubleshoot and provide follow-up for delivery and shipping issues.
- Assist with the timely processing of resource sharing and reserves requests, including retrieving material, checking material in/out, labeling, scanning, and preparing for shelving or delivery. Manage assigned workflow tasks in Alma. Maintain communication with other AUS team members in the workflow to ensure the timely completion of requests. Be knowledgeable about resource sharing and reserves policies and be able to respond to basic inquiries
- Stacks Maintenance: sort and re-shelve library materials as needed; shelf-read and provide related stack maintenance support as necessary
- Maintains technical competency and skills through professional development opportunities. Participate in department and University-wide committees, events and professional organizations.
- Other
duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental
mission.
Special Notes:
This is
a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime
provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee’s base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000
UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential
position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions
that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work
even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations
in an emergency.
Must be able to move/lift up to 50 pounds.
