Access and User Services Student Employment Manager
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached
resume):
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two (2) plus years of
full-time professional experience. Strong customer service experience in a
related customer-focused field (e.g. hospitality, educational support). Strong
computer skills, including Google apps, Microsoft Office, and internet.
Preferred Qualifications: Instruction experience, including using LMS platforms such as Moodle or
Blackboard. Experience in a library (academic or public). Experience using
databases or online platforms, statistics and scheduling software tools, and
office productivity software. Supervisory experience.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Access and User Services (AUS) Student Employment Manager will assist
in the hiring, training, and scheduling of student employees for all AUS
locations. This includes collaborating with the library’s personnel department
to obtain applications, interviewing, and working with AUS staff on scheduling.
This position will manage the online training modules and records for student
training. The AUS Student Employment Manager will collaborate with area
supervisors on scheduling of student employees and will assist in the deploying
of the online training modules, including assessing the exercises and providing
feedback to the student employees. The incumbent must possess excellent oral
and written communication experience. The incumbent must have a demonstrated
ability to make independent decisions and resolve complex challenges.The person in this position will also be responsible for providing service
at assigned library locations, checking material in/out, responding to patron
inquiries in person, over the phone, and online, and assisting with stacks
projects such as shelving, retrieval, resource sharing processing.
Duties:
- Assist in overseeing operations in assigned library locations, including service desk coverage, student supervision, and responding to patron inquiries. Coverage of library services desk includes circulation of library materials, processing of resource sharing and reserve requests, answering patron inquiries in person, over the phone, and online, and referring complex research questions to Reference faculty. Utilize a variety of library reference tools (as well as excellent listening and communication skills) to provide quality service to patrons. Requires understanding of reference protocol and library procedures and services. Knowledge of access services and library policies.
- Oversee the hiring, scheduling, and training of AUS student employees. Coordinate with the library personnel office for applicants and ensure proper paperwork is completed. Work with AUS staff on updating and maintaining the online student employee training program in learning management platform, including monitoring and correcting assignments and providing feedback to student employees and supervisors. Work closely with student employee supervisors on in-person training and oversight of student employment.
- Assist with the processing of resource sharing requests, including assigning requests to appropriate queues and responding to questions about request status. Retrieving, scanning, and preparing material for delivery. Requires knowledge of resource sharing policies and ability to use specialized software such as Alma, ILLiad, course management system, and scanning software and tools.
- Participate in stacks maintenance activities and delivery operations for Access & User Services.
- Participate in special projects. The incumbent may be directed to initiate and carry out special projects related to Access Services and will be expected to independently plan and carry out these assignments. Independently identify special projects that need to be completed.
- Professional development and continuing education: attend training, workshops, lectures, and/or classes in support of position. Keep abreast of developments in the library field. Read professional journals and/or blogs and monitor relevant listserv.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the
overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee’s base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400
UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential
position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions
that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work
even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations
in an emergency.
