Access to Other Research Libraries

Through the University’s membership in various library consortia, Stony Brook University students, faculty, and staff have access to numerous libraries both locally and throughout the country.

SHARES

The University Libraries’ participation in the SHARES program (OCLC) allows Stony Brook University students, faculty, and staff with current IDs to enter and use many major libraries in the United States, Canada and abroad.

Check the list of the member libraries in our regional area or the location at which you will be visiting. Full list of RLG member libraries
Stony Brook University ID holders visiting these institutions may use materials on site; borrowing privileges are usually not available. Anyone wishing to visit a member library is urged to call ahead and confirm access and privileges.

NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

Any person who lives, works, attends school or pays property taxes in New York State is eligible to receive a New York Public Library card free of charge. This gives researchers the opportunity to use important collections in the NYPL system, check out material, and access electronic resources on-site or, in a few cases, from home. See the NYPL site for more information on getting a card. See their list of databases.

STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK (SUNY) LIBRARIES

Stony Brook University students, faculty and staff with a valid, active ID card have borrowing privileges at most SUNY libraries.
