Match Day 2026!

Stony Brook University Libraries would like to wish all of our students a wonderful Match Day! We know you will all do great things in the next stage of your medical careers.

Match Day is a day where medical students find out where they will be training in the next phase of their educational journey. This year, the event will take place on Friday, March 20th at noon. The National Residency Match Program uses a mathematical algorithm to place applicants into residency and fellowship positions. The students all gather together, with friends and family, to open their envelopes, containing the news of their next placement. For those that do not “match” during the first round, their names are re-entered into the system.

In 2025, 130 Stony Brook students matched during the first round.
