Valentine’s Day Art of the Violin Concert a Success

The Library’s Spring 2024 Concert series began successfully in the Galleria

with the Art of the Violin on Valentine’s Day. As roses and brownies were

being purchased in the horseshoe near the entrance, passersby were

treated to performances by students of violin professor Jennifer Frautschi.

We heard the Sonata No. 1 in G major, op. 78 (“Regensonate,”) by Johannes

Brahms, and Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello, in their entirety.

Other selections included the Allegro amabile from Brahms’s Sonata No. 2,

op. 100, the Melodia, Adagio and Presto from the Sonata for Violin Solo, Sz.

117, by Bela Bartok, and the “Ménétrier,” (Country Fiddler) movement from

George Enescu’s Impressions d’Enfance, op. 28.

The Library’s Steinway Boston baby grand piano sounded great after its

recent extensive repair and tuning. Our thanks to Professor Frautschi, and

Rachel Da Young Lim, Hudson Ye Hyung Chung, Hanbo Wang, and Yigit

Karatas, violinists; Sameer Apte, violoncello; and Marlene McCarthy and

Changyue Liu, pianists.

Thanks also to Tom Malenich, the Music Department’s piano technician;

the Library’s volunteers for setting up and moving the piano; and Dean

Karim Boughida for his continued support of the University Libraries’s

performance series.
