Required Qualifications:  As per Civil Service Guidelines.  Must have taken and passed the specific job related Civil Service exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list. 70.1 Transfers are encouraged to apply.  70.1 Transfer Candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and have served permanently in an appropriate title(s) for one year.  Transfers must be within two salary grades. The Civil Service list for this position might provide insufficient acceptors, therefore, a provisional appointment may be made.   Any provisional appointee will be required to take, pass and be reachable on the next Civil Service examination to be permanently appointed.

Preferred Qualifications:  Strong customer service experience in a related customer-focused field (hospitality, education support).  Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel; Demonstrated ability to use Google applications such as Docs, Sheets, Calendar.  Experience in a library (academic or public).  Experience with integrated library system or library services platform (like Sierra or Alma).  Experience working with young adults.

 Brief Description of Duties:

  • Staffs service desk at assigned locations, including opening and/or closing library location, circulation of library material, answering library user questions (in person, phone, email, or online chat), and referring complex research questions to library liaisons. Maintain usage statistics. Knowledge of access services policies and procedures. Assist with all aspects of circulation services including checking material in/out, placing holds/recalls, managing patron records, communicating with library departments regarding damaged/lost material. Provide oversight of library space, enforcing library use policies, maintaining appropriate atmosphere conducive to research and study, communicate with university departments regarding safety, cleanliness, and maintenance.
  • Manage mail deliveries for the library, including sorting mail for pick up by staff and delivery services, coordinating deliveries, ensuring outgoing mail is processed correctly. Assists with processing incoming and outgoing mail for resource sharing. Acts as primary point of contact for library delivery services.
  • Provide support for resource sharing services including retrievals, shelving, scanning of library material.
  • Assists with stack maintenance: preparing carts for shelving, and completing stack maintenance tasks as needed to include books and journals. Participates in stacks maintenance projects
  • Maintains technical competency and skills through professional development opportunities. Participate in department and University-wide committees, events and professional organizations.

Special Notes:  This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.  Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
