SBU Libraries Opens a New Information Service Point

This year we give thanks for the plentitude of convenient information in the Library.

Thanksgiving conjures many memories for many Americans. The scrumptious aroma of freshly made apple pie, sending a medley of seasonal spices wafting through the air. A lively game of football aired on the family television, surrounded by a couch and many chairs full of relatives snoozing soundly after a very large feast. And for me, growing up in a very rural state where all relatives live hours apart, the time spent riding around aimlessly lost in the car, sunset creeping on quickly, snow lightly falling, tempers struggling to be suppressed, despite the thought that somewhere someone was more likely than not taking a second helping of mashed potatoes right about now that should be on my plate! But my father, not unlike many other fathers out there, could not be troubled by the inconvenience involved in pulling into a gas station to inquire after directions. Surely, the road we need is just around the next turn. Over the next hill, perhaps? Just keep driving.

If only information had always been as convenient to come across as it is now. This year, we do not have to be late for lunch, or dinner, or that game we’re dying to sit down and sleep through. The Library knows time is precious to you and that your favorite kind of information is that which can be found in the most convenient way possible. For this reason, we have set up a new information service point. A staff member now awaits your directional questions at the horseshoe desk across from the Library’s Central Reading Room, and will be there Mondays through Thursdays, 10AM-3PM during the academic year. So stop by. Don’t have a question but looking for informative brochures and handouts about departments and services housed within the library building? Feel free to browse our collection. You just might find answers to questions you didn’t know you had.
