Local authors Melissa Goldsmith and Anita Malin present their techniques in writing and researching – The House of Fire, Guardians of the Elements – first in a four part series presented by The Wild Rose Press in 2018. The House of Fire tells the story of Ashlyn Woods, Fire Guardian of Aether kidnapped by a doctor driven by obsession and greed. His nefarious plan included harnessing Ashlyn’s powers for profit and revenge. Consumed by unimaginable forces that draws him to her, it falls upon Hawk, the Protector, to rescue the tempestuous Fire Guardian. Ashlyn and Hawk, together uncover a shared telepathic link needed to bring her home safely. Soon, they discover that by opening their hearts, they share the most of deep connections – deeper than either imagined. Published in June 2018, The House of Fire is the very first collaboration of these two Long Island based writers. The story for The House of Fire required research for authenticity, facts, originality and countless hours of study, to include ; grammar and writing techniques. In addition, their research focused on topics intended to enhance the reader’s knowledge of the Four Elements ; Wiccan and Native American Beliefs, Weapons, Interrogation Techniques and Medical Procedures. Extensive research was also conducted on publishing houses and their requirements for submission. Melissa and Anita have agreed to come to Stony Brook University Library and reveal some of their research tips and tricks for putting together this marvelous work of fiction. Also hear how these prolific first timers persisted in getting their writing foray actually published! Whether you are a fiction lover or looking to research and publish your own scholarly publication – they have all the answers!
