Gisele Schierhorst, Head of the Music Library, was interviewed by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute member Ed Metzendorf at the New Union on Wednesday, April 8. Mrs. Schierhorst talked about the Music Library’s LP collection, her WUSB radio show, “Music Library Gems,” and the musicians in her family. Her father Nelson Glover was an organist and church music director at All Souls Episcopal Church in Stony Brook; her great uncle Don Abney was pianist for 20 years for jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald; and her uncle Henry Glover was a trumpet player for bandleaders Lucky Millinder, Fletcher Henderson, as well as a composer of the pop tune “California Sun,” and an executive for King Records and Roulette Records. Mrs. Schierhorst played excerpts from various albums and took questions from the audience. Check out “Music Library Gems,” on Sunday mornings and every other Monday afternoon. WUSB and OLLI Stony Brook have informative websites as well. The interview series runs through April 29th.
