It is with great pleasure that we welcome Nicholas E. Johnson as the Director of AI at SBU Libraries. This newly minted position is among the first of its kind in libraries nationwide. Nicholas brings a wealth of experience leading the strategic integration of AI technologies to enhance library services, support academic engagement and promote ethical and responsible use of AI. His prior roles as a Senior Data and Analytics Advisor at USAID, where he analyzed global food security trends, and as the Director of Operations Research at FDNY, where he developed AI solutions for emergency response, demonstrate his dedication and expertise in data and technology.
Nicholas earned a Ph.D. in Urban Science from the University of Warwick and a Master’s Degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. His graduate work focused on investigating urban waste issues using physical computing and interaction design. He is a dedicated advocate for data, technology, and innovation in public service
We are thrilled to have Nicholas join us and look forward to his contributions to our SBU community
