FREE SHUTTLE to West Meadow Beach during Summer 2024 Weekends!

Congratulations! Dr. Anil Yazici from the Department of Civil Engineering and Dr. Elizabeth Hewitt from the Department of Technology and Society received a New York Sea Grant for their research project.

About the project: The research team has a shuttle that takes people to West Meadow Beach (from wherever they indicate) in the morning and takes them back to the pickup location in the afternoon. The purpose of the project is to provide beach access mainly to disadvantaged communities with limited mobility options, such as no car ownership. These communities are challenging to reach through social media etc., so libraries can be of great help. The ride request requires downloading an app that does not solve the digital divide issue but they have created a Spanish version of the app and also have Spanish speaking students in the project team to at least address the language barrier.

This shuttle is a part of a project funded by New York Sea Grant and conducted by Stony Brook University researchers.

Please see the fliers (both in English and Spanish) and the summary of the project. You are welcome to share it with any organization/people who you think might be interested.
