Every year Southampton College, now Stony Brook Southampton, has an annual Windmill Lighting. This year, in celebration of its 50th anniversary, the lighting was most festive, with attendance of Timothy Bishop, Kenneth LaValle, Provost Dennis Assanis, Wolfie , the Stony Brook Band, balloon creations and crafts for children, holiday carols and festive foods. The Windmill was honored last summer as a National Literary Landmark. Tennessee Williams lived in the Windmill while writing an experimental play, entitled “The Day on which a Man Dies”, responding to the death of his fiend, abstract expressionist painter, Jackson Pollock. The Windmill has been restored to its original splendor, complete with fireplace, 2 floors, kitchen, living and sleeping quarters.
