Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree). In lieu of degree, four (4) years of directly related full time experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four (4) full-time years may be considered. Proficient, professional experience in word processing, spreadsheet management, electronic messaging and internet applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Apps, etc…).
Library experience, preferably academic. Previous security related experience. Customer service experience. Experience dealing with College or University student populations. Supervisory experience.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Overnight Supervisor will be part of a team of employees responsible for managing the Library Central Reading Room. The incumbent will be expected to resolve patron, security and emergency issues/situations/problems that occur during the overnight hours.
The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Work under the direction of the Overnight Manager and may supervise student assistants. Ensure that the Library operation functions smoothly and that library patrons are safe and sound. Work closely with evening/weekend and day shift staff.
- Respond to patron inquiries at the service desk, including library service and basic reference questions. Use general library reference tools to refer inquiries through email to proper subject specialist for answer. Provide quality customer service to patrons.
- Patrol all public service areas regularly and handle patron issues appropriately. Communicate through appropriate channels about facilities, online systems, and patron issues.
- Assist with special projects related to Access Services.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
This is a part time temporary appointment (.80 FTE). FLSA Non-exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Flexibility in work hours is required to accommodate the Library’s operational needs and changes in Library hours during summer and intersession. Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are cancelled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
