Description

**PLEASE NOTE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been cancelled.**

Whether you’ve written a poem about ‘teardrops or drops of sweat’, this poetry reading event is for you. Whether you’ve had to drop a line or an entire verse in your original poem, this workshop is for you. Join us on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 3:00-5:00pm in the North Reading Room classroom for this exciting combination event.

To begin, we’ll hear from Stony Brook University Alumni, Selin Senol-Akin. A published author and poet is also an Adjunct Lecturer for Touro Law School and will share with us her behind-the-scenes thoughts and motivations when she wrote Write Out Your Drops, a Readers’ Favorite collection of poems. Share what stumps you as a writer, let’s discuss, maybe you’ll gain some insight!

For the second part of our event, we want to hear from you! Read aloud your original poetry. Act out your written word. Tell us your story. Join us for either or both parts of this unique event in honor of National Poetry Month.

Author biography

SELIN SENOL-AKIN is an Adjunct Professor of language education, political scientist and human rights activist aside from her creative writing and featured spoken/written poetry. She lives in New York with her young daughter and family. Her works include; Set Free Your Flow, Write Out Your Drops, and The Catalyst.

Reviewed by Tammy Ruggles for Readers’ Favorite, “Write Out Your Drops, by Selin Senol-Akin, will dazzle you with poems about finding the strength to live your authentic self. The themes are wide and varied, from struggling with hard times to finding happiness in unexpected ways. Almost anyone can relate to these emotional topics, and it’s nice for readers to know they aren’t alone.

“If you have trouble expressing your emotions or need to sort out a life issue, poetry can help you do that, and this volume acts as a catharsis to help you get there. Just like music is therapeutic, poetry can be too, as Senol-Akin shows.”
