What the Health? Workshop Series Concludes

On April 5, the Stony Brook health sciences librarians concluded their three-part workshop series for Suffolk County’s public librarians, What the Health? The series focused on teaching the public librarians more about the freely available health resources from the National Library of Medicine so that they can better assist members of the public who come to their libraries. The three workshops focused on general consumer health (MedlinePlus), genetics (Genetics Home Reference), and environmental health (TOXNET and Tox Town).

All three workshops were taught at the Suffolk Cooperative Library System in Bellport and the workshops had attendees from across Suffolk County. The feedback received from the public librarians was very positive for all three workshops.

The three librarians involved with the workshops–Jamie Saragossi, Jessica Koos, and Gregg Stevens–will be presenting on their experiences at two upcoming conferences. They will attend the METRO Spring Research Forum in New York City at the end of April, and in May Jessica will be presenting on the project at the annual meeting of the Medical Library Association in Atlanta.
