The Society for Scholarly Publishing Connects publishers, researchers and Librarians

A nonprofit entity, The Society for Scholarly Publishing was established in 1978 to foster academic publishing and help build community. The Society strives to bring together publishing professionals, researchers and librarians to network, share information and communicate the latest developments in the publishing industry. In keeping with SSP’s commitment to advance the publishing industry, the Society hosts a lot of events that help assemble all publishing professionals for open discussion about the industry. These events include annual meetings, educational seminars, librarian focus groups, and conferences. The Society’s efforts and events aligns mainly with its  mission: “To advance scholarly publishing and communication, and the professional development of its members through education, collaboration, and networking”.logo (1)

Moreover, the Society provides information and educational resources for publishers and librarians to promote knowledge and understanding of trends and challenges in scholarly publishing.  One popular platform for information and discussion is the professional blog the Scholarly Kitchen. The society also advertises publishing and information and library sciences programs in well established universities in Canada, the United Kingdom and The United States.

In addition to the educational resources and events, the Society provides its members with career path help through advertising job opportunities, advices about joining the publishing industry and networking events. Moreover, the society’s website enables members to create a professional profile and each month the society chooses one profile to display on the website which shows case of the member’s professional history achievements.
