Campus Description: Stony Brook University, home to many highly ranked graduate research programs, is located 60 miles from New York City on Long Island’s scenic North Shore. Stony Brook Libraries are known for a wide-range of print and digital resources and world renowned special collections. The Stony Brook Libraries belong to the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), with a Health Sciences Center Library that is a member of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries. The libraries are engaged in ambitious and dynamic strategic planning (2015-2018). The collection exceeds 2 million volumes, including e-books, print and electronic holdings of scholarly subscriptions, microforms, music recordings, and a sizeable map collection. The SBU Libraries include 6 distinct facilities, including Melville Library, Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Math/Physics, Southampton and Health Sciences Libraries, and SUNY Korea-SBU campus. The University’s Libraries stand as the largest academic research library on Long Island, serving as a resource in the local community, state-wide, and nationally and internationally. The Libraries maintain memberships and affiliations in arXiv, Association of Research Libraries, SPARC, Center for Research Libraries, SUNY Connect, DuraSpace (as a SUNY Member) the council on Library and Information Resources, Digital Library Federation, Coalition of Networked Information, EDUCAUSE, Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research, Roper Center, OCLC Research Library Partnership, and ORCID through the National Network of the National Libraries of Medicine. The Libraries utilize Ex Libris’ Aleph for its integrated library system and have recently deployed EBSCO’s Discovery Service, DSpace, Content DM, and Omeka, are used for managing digital assets and a growing Institutional Repository.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA accredited degree program.
  • Minimum of two years professional experience working with electronic resources at academic libraries.
  • Experience with ILS (Integrated Library System) acquisition module functions including encumbrance, split funds, fiscal year-end closing, and adjusting for the discrepancy between fiscal and calendar year accounting.
  • Ability to provide and maintain access to electronic resources through software such as link resolvers discovery services, ERM, EZproxy, or Alma Primo.
  • Excellent knowledge of electronic content delivery and organization, and best practices in improving the discoverability of electronic resources through workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external parties to resolve access issues related to electronic resources and to adapt to changing environments and priorities.
  • Evidence of flexibility, innovative thinking, and a vision for the future of academic libraries.
  • Knowledge of the electronic product market, publishing issues, pricing models, and licensing.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate clearly with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional advanced degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate user needs and seek ways of improving satisfactory solutions.
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience with data analytics.
  • Knowledge of industry standards related to serials and e-resources, e.g., ISSN, Open URL, KBART, ERMI, SERU, COUNTER, SUSHI, MARC, etc.
  • Experience working with vendors and licensing issues.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Develop and improve workflows for monitoring and processing subscriptions in relationship to existing license expirations and renewals, registration, and activation of electronic subscriptions and troubleshooting electronic resource access problems reported by patrons and other library staff.
  • Administer new and existing licenses for electronic resources, interpreting data for maintaining a license database, and consulting with University Legal Counsel to resolve license and contract issues.
  • Responsible for researching license agreements and accessibility in order to place new subscription orders and ensure user access.
  • Develop and improve the workflows for new databases trials.
  • Maintain the journal A-Z List and Database List to ensure the accurate and updated holdings.
  • Assist the Head of Acquisitions to generate fund reports on the monthly basis.
  • Work with the Head of Acquisitions to coordinate the e-resource life cycle management efforts, including license renew and record maintenance, invoicing and activation, address and authentication, and EDI loading, discovery system and e-resource management system configuration and maintenance, and analysis and report creation for collection assessment purposes.
  • Assist the Head of Acquisitions to assess the performance of the department and develop improvement plans
  • Works closely with Metadata librarians and Library IT staff to make sure electronic content and database resources are properly added, and records created for access by users.
  • Develop policy and procedures of electronic resources management and design training programs for staff development.
  • Maintains awareness and engagement of trends and developments in e-resource acquisitions and management and transfers knowledge to staff by providing appropriate training.

Special Notes: This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
