Web Services Intern

This internship will introduce the student to a general experience in web service in an academic library with tasks related to: web management, graphic design, promotion/marketing, LibApps, web analytics, and reference. Interns will also be introduced to other areas of academic librarianship (scholarly communication, digital projects, etc.) and work both independently and collaboratively on interest-driven projects.

Daily work may include:

  • Creating web pages, posts, events, and other items on the library’s website (WordPress); assisting with web design for digital projects (Omeka). Familiarity with blogging and/or content management systems a plus, but not required

  • Creating promotional materials such as web banners and other graphics to promote library initiatives and resources. Familiarity with image editing software a plus, but not required

  • Analyzing website traffic for usage patterns and reporting on trends to improve library website experience. Familiarity with Google Analytics a plus, but not required

  • Creating and maintaining LibGuides; updating or removing broken links; ensuring the LibAnswers database is up-to-date and accurate; Familiarity with Springshare a plus, but not required

  • Participate in reference duties, including in-person reference desk and virtual reference service shifts
