13th Annual Library Student Staff Appreciation Luncheon

For the past 13 years The University Libraries host a luncheon each Spring to acknowledge and say thank you to our student staff for their hard work and dedication to the libraries.  The annual student staff lunch is also a time of recognition for achievements and award presentations.  The food is provided by Library Administration and the library Faculty/Staff join in on the fun and contribute the desserts, fruit and drinks each year.

Jessica Quizhpe from the Music Library was the 2016 Recipient for the University Libraries Distinguished Student Employee Award.  This award was established in 2004 by the university libraries faculty/staff to reward University Libraries student staff member(s) who exhibit exemplary work and commitment to the University Libraries.

The Thomas Jefferson Award is funded by an anonymous donor and friend of library to provide recognition and reduce the financial pressures on the recipient who has exhibited reasonable citizenship, determination and diligence toward his/her studies.  In the Fall semester 2015 the donor increased the award from annual to a bi-annual award.  In addition to the monetary award from the donor, the recipients receive a plaque for remembrance and are recognized in front of their peers.

DeeDee Ebalu from the Library Personnel / Student Employment Office was the first recipient of the 2015 Fall semester Thomas Jefferson Award.  She received her plaque in the Fall semester.  We recognized this accomplishment by presenting her with flowers during the luncheon.

Peter Groffmann from the MASIC Library is the 2016 Spring semester recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award.  Peter received his plaque and was recognized at the luncheon for his accomplishments.

Each year student supervisors want to acknowledge student staff who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to the libraries.  This year 39 student employees received a “Star” recognition Certificate and golden star pins as a way of acknowledging their hard work throughout the year.

Joram Mercado from the Central Reading Room was recognized on the ALA “Galaxy of Star’s website for his outstanding work.  Joram received and metal bookmark and certificate to acknowledge his achievement.
