“My Alma mater was books, a good library…I could spend the rest of my life reading, just satisfying my curiosity” — Malcom X
February is African-American History Month. Stony Brook University Libraries offers many resources for research in Africana Studies. The collection includes print and electronic materials, journals, databases and online resources. The collection also includes archival material and primary sources on microfilm, government documents and maps. Across the collections there is multidisciplinary emphasis focusing on anthropology, global studies, literature, religion and sociology. Further emphasis is placed on the exploration of African civilizations and their influences on other parts of the “Black Diaspora.”
You can view the Africana Studies subject guide for a listing of materials and instruction on how to search.
The Africana Studies collection at Stony Brook University Libraries supports the program in Africana Studies. Currently the program offers B.A., M.A. and Bachelor’s – Master’s Programs for teacher certification.
